Flat Ribbons for Schools, Sports and Events

Q: What is the difference between ribbons sold individually and ribbons sold with card and string?

Ribbons with a pinked top edge are designed to be pinned directly to clothing, bulletin boards, or award displays, sold in packs as the more economical format. Ribbons sold with card and string include a small printed card at the top with a string loop, allowing the ribbon to be hung from a nail, pinboard, or display hook without pinning. This format is popular for classroom displays and county fair presentations where ribbons are traditionally hung on walls or stall doors. Both formats are sold in packs of 25 for most styles, making it practical to stock up for an entire season or event series.

Available in economy 1-5/8 inch styles for maximum budget efficiency, standard 2 x 8 inch stock ribbons in traditional place colors, full color printed designs featuring sport-specific and subject-specific artwork, and ribbon sets with card and string attachment for immediate pinning, our selection covers every common recognition need from 1st through 3rd place finishes to participation acknowledgment to school subject awards. Sport-specific ribbon sets for baseball, basketball, soccer, swimming, and track include coordinating designs that connect the award to the activity, while school and fun ribbon styles serve classroom reward programs across grade levels and subjects.

Frequently Asked Questions About Printed Award Ribbons

What is the difference between stock ribbons, printed ribbons, and full color ribbons?

Stock ribbons are the most basic style, featuring a solid color fabric with a simple pre-printed title such as 1st Place, 2nd Place, or Participant in a single ink color. They are the most affordable option and work well for large field days, track meets, and youth league programs where volume matters most and budget is the primary consideration. Printed recognition ribbons add more graphic detail to the ribbon face, incorporating award titles with decorative borders or simple design elements that make the ribbon feel more distinctive than a plain stock style. Full color ribbons feature vibrant multicolor printed designs, often incorporating sport-specific imagery or detailed artwork alongside the award title, producing a finished ribbon that looks more substantial and visually appealing at presentation. Sport-specific ribbon sets such as those for baseball, basketball, soccer, swimming, and track use full color designs tied directly to the activity, making them ideal when you want the ribbon to immediately communicate both the achievement and the sport. The right choice depends on your budget, the size of your program, and how prominently the visual design of the ribbon matters to your recipients.

What occasions are printed award ribbons most commonly used for?

Printed award ribbons are used most heavily in elementary and middle school classroom recognition programs, where teachers distribute ribbons for reading milestones, spelling bees, math challenges, science fairs, and general academic achievement on a regular basis throughout the school year. School field days where students compete across multiple events in a single day represent another major use case, since printed ribbons can be handed out immediately after each event without any customization step. Youth sports leagues use place ribbons for end-of-season ceremonies and tournament finishes, particularly at younger age divisions where participation recognition is as important as competitive placement. County fairs, 4-H competitions, livestock shows, and community events with multiple competitive categories have a long tradition of ribbon presentation and rely on printed styles for their affordability and immediate availability. Event ribbons featuring general titles like Guest, Speaker, Volunteer, and Staff are also widely used at conferences, ceremonies, and organized gatherings where identifying roles visually helps manage large groups of attendees.

What is the difference between ribbons sold individually and ribbons sold with card and string?

Ribbons with a pinked top edge are designed to be pinned or attached directly to clothing, bulletin boards, or award displays. They are sold in packs and are the more economical format, suited for programs that pin ribbons onto shirts at the event or attach them to certificates and award packets after the fact. Ribbons sold with card and string include a small printed card at the top of the ribbon with a string loop, allowing the ribbon to be hung from a nail, pinboard, or display hook without pinning. This format is popular for classroom displays where ribbons are shown on a wall or bulletin board as part of an ongoing recognition program, and for county fair and livestock show presentations where ribbons are traditionally hung on stall doors or display panels. Both formats are sold in packs of 25 for most styles, making it practical to stock up for an entire season or event series at one time.
